Flying over Timor

Flying over Timor

This B-26, #40-1529, was picked up by 2/Lt. Albert W. Standwood while he was on leave at Brisbane during late May 1942. He brought it back to Townsville, where it was assigned to the 2nd Squadron. It is seen here, with two missions marked below the cockpit window, winging its way serenely over the Timor countryside, probably on November 4th, when 1/Lt. John R. Siegel was at the controls. Note the bomb explosions on the ground below. The plane was lost in bad weather while climbing towards the Kokoda Gap in the mountains north of Buna on December 7th.
